As with all schools careful financial management has become ever increasingly important. Value for money is paramount in relation to impact on costings. Each year we review all external agencies and the provision and service. Our decision to move to Soundswell for Speech and Language support was a very simple one especially as we had seen a reduction in pupil contact time whilst here was an increasing in costs from previous provider. The move to Soundswell has been a successful one for our school as we have agreed in partnership a more tailored approach and addressed areas that we felt were essential for SALT provision. Soundswell started work at Stanville Primary by auditing our current caseload but also exploring new referrals, by the school and parents, especially children where EAL may or may not have been a barrier to learning. We have found the staff supportive and flexible in their approach to working on a day to day basis and this ability to adapt to a typical school environment should be applauded. Soundswell provide for our school the following: *Comprehensive pupil reports and updates *Effective staff communication to assist with teaching and learning as well as feedback to parents *Detailing of assessments and areas for staff (teachers and TAs) to focus upon between visits and general classroom support *Effective TA support to ensure consistent and targeted delivery of SALT *Positive relationships with all children *Willingness to assess all children highlighted by the school *Willingness to work alongside other agencies to ensure most effective route *Strong level of professionalism and trust between staff *Increase in school caseload whilst maintaining competitive pricing *Training and support in Wellcomm programme for EYFS/KS1 staff *Training and support in general speech and language for KS2 staff
Kathryn and Emily (and the rest of Soundswell) have made it possible to provide timely and effective speech and language support for the pupils of Featherstone Primary School. Our therapist works closely with our school staff and provides any clarification or training needed to deliver individualised support. Soundswell are a fantastic service who listen to what the school needs. Their therapists share our goal of providing children with the support so they are able to overcome difficulties and reach for the stars. Thank you!
I would like to say thank you to Soundswell for the high level of service that Albert Bradbeer have received over the past four years! We have worked with a number of your therapists, who have always been professional and flexible, and ensured that we received the support that we required as a school. Soundswell have helped us to introduce Wellcomm as a language assessment tool and intervention programme. They have provided staff training, helped us to up-skill our staff and provided essential support to pupils in need of speech and language therapy. This has enabled us to demonstrate a Graduated Response and the use of Universal, Targeted and Specialist support to SEND pupils. We would highly recommend them to other schools!
I'm contacting you to show my gratitude and appreciation for your therapist's professionalism, high level of invaluable knowledge, flexibility in a changing environment and especially the support that I felt I had from her in my role as the new SENCo to the school. In short, she has been really great to work with, not to mention kind and good humoured. Ultimately, her impact on key pupils and supporting adults was hugely positive and I very much look forward to working with her next year.
Here is some feedback following a recent block of time spent at Brays delivering phase 1 of our approach to SLCN in special schools “ We Love having the Soundswell special school team in Brays because between them the therapists bring expertise in many different areas” "Together the Soundswell special schools team bring all the skills and expertise needed to meet the complex SLCN needs of the children at Brays”
We were thrilled to receive the following email this week:- In the recent LGB (governors) meeting, I presented the Wellcomm data. They were really impressed and wanted me to pass on their thanks for all of the work you have done to train the TA's and work with the children to deliver such fantastic results. It's going to make such a massive difference to the children we have here, and I'm really excited about it going forward. So, on behalf of the LGB and from myself, thank you very much! Jude Harbour is the Soundswell associate working in Orchards- so well done Jude !!
Without Soundswell's help our year 11 pupil would not have been able to access her lessons and her exam
The Wellcomm programme has been added as one of our strategies to support children’s speech and language development in Early Years. Assessment, along with the structure of the programme has enabled sharp and focussed teaching to narrow the gaps for children at our school. Our recent Ofsted inspection noted “Children are given effective support to quickly develop their language skills and work successfully alongside others. They show a good behaviour for learning”.
If a child struggles with speech and language development and it is not recognised this can become a huge barrier to learning and the road to independence. Previous Speech and Language input had been very scarce and the number of children going without specialist support was growing. We felt helpless as professionals. Now we feel confident that some of the work we were already doing was making a difference. One of the things Soundswell say they aim to do is to help us work towards being more self-sufficient as our knowledge and skills increase. We now have the capacity to build upon school- based support as our staff receive training and advice about resources. They have learnt many new techniques and activities. Alongside this we have the specialist Therapist input for our Priority One children. As a school we feel empowered, motivated and confident that our children needing support with speech and language are getting their needs met.
