I'm contacting you to show my gratitude and appreciation for your therapist's professionalism, high level of invaluable knowledge, flexibility in a changing environment and especially the support that I felt I had from her in my role as the new SENCo to the school. In short, she has been really great to work with, not to mention kind and good humoured. Ultimately, her impact on key pupils and supporting adults was hugely positive and I very much look forward to working with her next year.
Here is some feedback following a recent block of time spent at Brays delivering phase 1 of our approach to SLCN in special schools “ We Love having the Soundswell special school team in Brays because between them the therapists bring expertise in many different areas” "Together the Soundswell special schools team bring all the skills and expertise needed to meet the complex SLCN needs of the children at Brays”
Sam talks about how Soundswell's training course has helped her to support a wide range of pupils with SLCN including ASD
Without Soundswell's help our year 11 pupil would not have been able to access her lessons and her exam
We were thrilled to receive the following email this week:- In the recent LGB (governors) meeting, I presented the Wellcomm data. They were really impressed and wanted me to pass on their thanks for all of the work you have done to train the TA's and work with the children to deliver such fantastic results. It's going to make such a massive difference to the children we have here, and I'm really excited about it going forward. So, on behalf of the LGB and from myself, thank you very much! Jude Harbour is the Soundswell associate working in Orchards- so well done Jude !!
The Wellcomm programme has been added as one of our strategies to support children’s speech and language development in Early Years. Assessment, along with the structure of the programme has enabled sharp and focussed teaching to narrow the gaps for children at our school. Our recent Ofsted inspection noted “Children are given effective support to quickly develop their language skills and work successfully alongside others. They show a good behaviour for learning”.
We've had Soundswell in for a term and as well as improved strategies for staff who work with students the support has boosted the confidence of students and given them ideas to help support their own learning. Parents have been really pleased that we have been able to offer support in school and one of the students has gone from an almost non speaker to someone who is willing to have a longer conversation with staff.
If a child struggles with speech and language development and it is not recognised this can become a huge barrier to learning and the road to independence. Previous Speech and Language input had been very scarce and the number of children going without specialist support was growing. We felt helpless as professionals. Now we feel confident that some of the work we were already doing was making a difference. One of the things Soundswell say they aim to do is to help us work towards being more self-sufficient as our knowledge and skills increase. We now have the capacity to build upon school- based support as our staff receive training and advice about resources. They have learnt many new techniques and activities. Alongside this we have the specialist Therapist input for our Priority One children. As a school we feel empowered, motivated and confident that our children needing support with speech and language are getting their needs met.
A Soundswell speech & language therapist supported one of our pupils for two years, prior to her transition to college. We are a girls high school and had very little to do with speech and language therapy up until this point. I think it’s particularly difficult to get help once pupils are out of primary school and the young person we needed help with didn’t seem to fit the criteria to be seen by anyone, despite having a severe communication difficulty. The therapist really helped us facilitate hospital appointments and worked with us to help Mum understand what the problems are. We, as staff, learnt a great deal and the pupil in question has made strenuous efforts to make the most of the skills she gained. As a consequence she grew in confidence and self-esteem. We all feel far more optimistic about what the future holds for this young lady.”
